MLB Short Stories 5/12-5/18

Suspensions and Firings (Opinion) Two things I don’t get in baseball: getting suspended for PEDs and firing your manager. I already discussed how I feel about firing your manager last week, so I’m not going to offer too many thoughts on Brandon Hyde’s relief of duties. Yes, the Orioles are way worse than their talent says they should be. That is 0% Hyde’s fault. The players are underperforming. If the organization thought that firing Hyde would light a fire under the players, they were dead wrong. I guess you have to take the highs of 2022 Manager of the Year and the low of being fired for a slow start if you’re Hyde. Let’s get to the PEDs now. I am a Phillies fan. This one hurts. On Sunday morning, Jose Alvarado was suspended by MLB for 80 games for violating the PED policy. I don’t really care if Jose was intentionally taking PEDs or if they were in a weight loss drug like he claims. There is no reason that any player should be caught taking PEDs in 2025. The consequences are clear...

April 2025 Music Recap

The past couple months I have admittedly been a little lazy with these. There are some albums that I wrote a two sentence uninspired blurb for like “the production is good” or “the songwriting is bad”. Fortunately, April has inspired me to write because of how much great music came out. Let’s get right into it. What I Liked SABLE, fABLE - Bon Iver (Indie Folk) Is it too early to call something my album of the year? I am absolutely biased because Bon Iver is my favorite artist and has been for a while. I would have been excited if this was a few mediocre songs. It’s impossible for me to remove my bias, but I genuinely think that had I never heard Bon Iver before I would still have loved this album. Justin has such an amazing ability to create these worlds with his music. He brings us into this world where he isn’t good enough and things haven’t gone the way he imagined. He then looks at the same situation from a more appreciative stance, a don’t cry because it’s over smile because it h...

The Ever-Quotable Bon Iver

Bon Iver is hands down my favorite artist. There are a bunch of reasons for why this is, but the main reason is that his lyrics resonate with me so much. They don’t always make sense in the conscious understanding kind of way. Sometimes the way that the words sound and the emotion with which Justin sings them is all I need. There are a lot of quotable moments like that on SABLE, fABLE . I felt like I had to write an article about this album with how much I’ve been listening to it, so I’m going to talk about some here. "I’m beset with what we could become" - From The words that Justin finds are always the right ones. He could use shorter words because it’s easy or longer words to sounds fancy. He always takes the time to find the most accurate word to describe his feelings, even is he has to make one up. He did not have to invent a word for this scenario, beset is the perfect word. "I’m a sable, and honey us the fable" - AWARDS SEASON In an interview with The New Yor...

MLB Short Stories 5/5-5/11

This is a new article series I’m starting. I have about six baseball articles that I’ve started in the past month that never got posted because I just can’t get interested enough to go fully in depth on random topics. This series will be a good way for me to get out my thoughts weekly in a shorter form. I’ll still write some full-length articles from time to time. I actually think that this will help inspire some longer pieces. Hope y’all enjoy. Saves By… Innings Pitched? On Wednesday night, both Taijuan Walker of the Phillies and Matt Sauer of the Dodgers recorded a save of 3+ innings. I need Sarah Langs to figure out when the last time that happened was. While the Phillies had a significant lead by the time Walker entered, it still counts as a save as any pitcher that did not start the game that pitches the final 3+ innings will earn a save (trust me, I was confused and had to consult the scorer’s rule book too). These saves come from guys that are settling into roles as long relie...
